ANDREW PRESTON DESIGN
(AUG-DEC, 2024)
(BESPOKE DESIGN)

Transporting and installing these pieces for ME+EM had its challenges, as the feature rail was cut on a 5 axis router from solid oak, amounting to about 80kg of weight while remaining very fragile.

MODERN TWIST ON TRADITIONAL DESIGN
Each job was unique and was tailored to match the brief of the rest of the interior.
On site adjustment were made to the circular wooden table (pictured below), as the client initially asked for a glass table top but later resorted back to the original, agreeing that glass would create smudges.
This last minute change resulted in us deciding to stretch fabric over the top of the original wooden table.
Admittedly it did look great (though not on the underside) despite being a last minute decision, as the store opened the next day.

HAND PAINTED SLIDING DOOR PANELS
This was my first experience working with Andrew and his brother.
While I mostly observed during the day it gave me a good idea about what goes into a big project like this.
As it included moving parts, I was amazed by the quality of the engineered runners used on the feature sliding door.
As well as how fine tuned adjustments of lighting had a huge affect on the overall look.

HIGHLIGHTS.
GLASS DOORS, INCORPORATED LIGHTING
With this project I was more hands on as the wine cabinet was too heavy to transport as one piece.
It was also great to learn more about how lighting can be used in interior architecture to change a space and highlight certain features and materials.
The glass was also an interesting challenge as it needed to be custom fit to the frame. Installing hardware like the handle and hinge was tricky.
