UNIVERSITY WORK
(1ST + 2ND YEAR)
(PERSONAL PROJECTS)
We worked with kettal's brief to fill a gap in their product range.
As we were only required to show a mockup, I wanted to create a video that highlighted how the firepit would function.

BRITISH INDUSTRY
Exploring the parallels between shipbuilding and furniture, in order to preserve heritage skills that have been lost in Britain over time
Companies like Bert Frank, David Mellor and Novocastrian was my starting point as they're examples of businesses that successfully repurposed the skills gained in Britain's industrial revolution.
I took inspiration from The hull of ships, expressing the tough conditions they are exposed to. The organic shape is guided from organisms that cling to the hull.
Adding a personal touch with an upholstered top was also reflective of my time at PR Home working with their upholsterers. Rather than a coffee table, the ottoman lets you put your feet up, or serves as the centre seat for entertaining guests.

PLYKEA
This was my first real project working with CNC tooling to understand how companies use wood routers to cut and machine rebates into furniture.
We created products with a tight brief to use materials available to us from PLYKEA's offcuts which was flat veneered FENIX plywood.
The wine rack featured a table top, turning it into a side table with a secondary feature, with the table also supporting the sides which hold the bottles.
It gave an excellent insight into what's possible with CNC manufacture, and how it can be used to create incredibly precise design. I also created an IKEA style handbook for ease of assembly, within the archetype of PLYKEA.

For a final Year project I wanted to follow my interests in Material finishes and manufacturing processes with a plethora of artisinal practices- with the aid of our extensive university CNC facilities.
"Torn Trees" tells a story of division and healing. The legs reflect the dark depths of the earth, with a life force rising towards the light. This illuminates its journey as it breaks through the surface, where it reconnects what was once divided.
Strength and stability arise from the juxtaposition of wood and metal, alongside the overlapping veneers and embroidery, creating function, beauty and balance.
